Sunday, August 11 - MHAS Annual Members Celebration!

Come join us at the Neilson Spearhead Center and Preserve for guided hikes, learn about MHAS activities, share a free meal, and hear from our featured speaker, John Latimer. John will be speaking on local phenology and what it has shown him about climate change.

John has recently retired from a 35-year career as a rural mail carrier near Grand Rapids, Minn., where he lives on 40 acres and regularly reports phenology data on 150 species. An expert naturalist, he continues to host a popular phenology program on KAXE/KBXE public radio, as he has for more than three decades. In the rare moments when he’s not doing phenology, John can be found curling, snorkeling in Minnesota lakes, bicycle riding and reading about natural history.

Everyone is welcome to attend – whether you are a current MHAS member or not! If you’ve never visited the Neilson Spearhead Center this is a great opportunity to explore our trails and learn about programs we offer for youth, families and adults.
