Christmas Bird Count is Next Weekend!

Saturday, Dec 14th, 7:30 am Minnesota Nice Cafe
Monday, Dec 16th, 7:30 am Itasca State Park Visitor Center
It's time for the 120th annual Audubon Christmas Bird Count (CBC)—the world's longest-running wildlife census, with over 100 years of community science involvement! It is an early-winter bird census, where thousands of volunteers across the U.S., Canada, and many countries in the Western Hemisphere go out over a 24-hour period on one calendar day to count birds.
The Bemidji CBC has been a tradition since being started by founders of the Mississippi Headwaters Audubon Society back in the 1970's. Participants regularly see crossbills, redpolls and other winter finches. You need not be an expert in bird identification to participate in this citizen science project. MHAS has loaner binoculars and bird guides and we will team up less experienced folks with more seasoned birders.
Join us in this fine holiday tradition! Bring warm clothes, good boots, binoculars, and a bird book. Contact this year's compiler, Doug Johnson, at 218-751-4162 or dougjohn23@gmail.com for more information. Birders will gather at the Minnesota Nice Cafe in Bemidji on Saturday the 14th and at Itasca State Park Jacob Brower Visitor Center on Monday the 16th- both at 7:30 am.
