Volunteer

MHAS is entirely run by volunteers. Everything we do is the result of people like you who enjoy nature and want to make a difference. Look and see if you can help with any of the opportunities listed below - or email us and suggest other ways you would like to volunteer with MHAS. To participate, click on Contact Us Today! and learn more.
  • NSC Volunteer - We always need extra hands at the Neilson Spearhead Center and Preserve (NSC) when doing trail maintenance, repairing boardwalks, building bat houses, fixing signs, and other projects.
  • YNP Volunteer - Our summer youth camp, the Young Naturalist Program (YNP) also needs people to support the naturalist with daily organizing and preparations for programs.
  • Citizen Scientist - Hike the trails at NSC and post your observations of plants, birds, insects and other discoveries to our iNaturalist page. You don't have to be an expert - just a willingness to be an active observer of the natural world. Sign up and we'll let you know about any citizen-science projects we have coming up!
  • Lead an Activity - If you have special knowledge of the outdoors, a craft, skill or other gift you'd like to share with others at the Neilson Spearhead Center & Preserve (NSC), LET US KNOW!
  • Online Technical Assistance - MHAS is looking for assistance administering our 'Google G-Suite for Nonprofits' account and website. If you have some time and technical expertise you'd like to share with an outdoor, nature focused organization like ours we'd love to hear from you.
  • Leadership - If you are looking for a leadership role, consider becoming a MHAS Board member. We also welcome high school, college, or other young adults to join the board. It can be great experience and provides us with youthful ideas and input on programs and activities (looks great on your resume as well!).
We can also use donations of the following items for YNP and other programs at the Neilson Spearhead Center and Preserve. Contact us if you can help.
  • Canoes
  • Canoe Paddles
  • L or XL life jackets
  • Binoculars, field guides, magnifying glasses, etc. (for visitor 'Grab & Go' nature study backpacks at NSC)
