A Celebration to Remember at Neilson Spearhead Nature Preserve
On Saturday, September 27, friends, members, and supporters of the Mississippi Headwaters Audubon Society gathered for our annual celebration at the Jeep Shed. From 5 to 7 o’clock, the preserve came alive with conversation, music, and the beauty of the season.
The evening brought together old friends and new faces, including members past and present, volunteers, board members, and neighbors, each one adding to the warmth of the gathering. President Peter Buesseler welcomed us with a thoughtful speech, reminding us of the lasting importance of community and conservation. We also heard from Dacia Dauner of Apple Blossom Village, who shared her inspiring work connecting children with the outdoors and fostering a love of nature.
The evening had its own music as well, both from the guitar playing of Caleb Erickson and from the forest itself. We shared good food, laughter, and conversation around the fire while pine needles drifted down, the autumn colors glowed, and the sun set over Spearhead Lake. Long shadows danced across the preserve, leaves sparkled as they fell, and it felt as though nature itself was celebrating with us.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who came, supported, and shared in this special evening. Events like these remind us that the preserve is more than a place; it is a community bound together by love for the land and the people who care for it.
If you weren’t able to join us this year, we hope you’ll be part of the next gathering. In the meantime, your membership and support help keep this preserve thriving. Consider joining or renewing your membership today, and be part of protecting Neilson Spearhead for generations to come.
Warmly,
Mississippi Headwaters Audubon Society
