Becoming a member of the Mississippi Headwaters Audubon Society is not complicated! To get started, click the small box next to the membership option that’s right for you. You can also customize your donation amount.

  • You may also enter a custom donation, every additional dollar helps support youth and adult environmental programming and care for the preserve.

  • Donations of over $100 automatically receive our Beaver Membership.

Your support helps us do more at Neilson Spearhead Nature Preserve including bringing in naturalists and educators to provide educational programs for youth and the community and care for the preserve.

The Mississippi Headwaters Audubon Society is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to conservation, education, and stewardship in northern Minnesota. All donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Memberships are non-refundable

Get Involved

  • Volunteers help keep the Neilson Spearhead Nature Preserve safe and accessible while protecting wildlife habitats. Tasks may include:

    • Clearing fallen branches, repairing trail signage, and maintaining boardwalks.

    • Removing invasive plants and helping native species thrive.

    • Monitoring habitats, trails, and wildlife activity to support conservation efforts.

      By participating, you directly preserve the integrity of the preserve for both wildlife and visitors.

  • Members can share their passion for nature and science by helping with:

    • Youth programs like nature camps or after-school activities.

    • School and group field trips, guiding students through hands-on learning about ecology, birds, and plants.

    • Workshops and modules for families or community groups.
      This is a chance to inspire the next generation of conservationists while developing your teaching and leadership skills.

  • Help MHAS connect with the public and build a stronger community by:

    • Assisting with seasonal events, guided hikes, volunteer days, and fundraisers.
