Driving Directions to Neilson Spearhead Nature Preserve
From Bemidji (≈ 15–20 minutes)
Head south on US-71 out of Bemidji.
Turn right (west) onto County Road 9.
After ~5 miles, turn left (south) onto County Road 29.
Continue ~6 miles. The preserve entrance will be on the left at 48851 County Road 29.
From Walker (≈ 1 hour)
Take MN-371 North toward Cass Lake.
In Cass Lake, turn left (west) onto US-2 toward Bemidji.
On the east side of Bemidji, merge onto US-71 South.
Turn right (west) onto County Road 9.
After ~5 miles, turn left (south) onto County Road 29.
Continue ~6 miles. The preserve entrance will be on the left at 48851 County Road 29.
From Detroit Lakes (≈ 1 hour 45 minutes)
Take US-10 West out of Detroit Lakes.
Turn right (northwest) onto MN-34 and continue through Park Rapids toward Akeley.
From Akeley, continue north on MN-64 toward Bemidji.
Near Bemidji, turn left (west) onto US-2.
Merge onto US-71 South.
Turn right (west) onto County Road 9.
After ~5 miles, turn left (south) onto County Road 29.
Continue ~6 miles. The preserve entrance will be on the left at 48851 County Road 29.
Four Season Access
The preserve is accessible year round, however access to NSNP is via County Road 29, which is considered a secondary priority road in Hubbard County. While it is generally passable by standard vehicles, winter conditions can affect its accessibility.

Preparation: Visitors planning to access NSNP during winter should ensure their vehicles are equipped for winter driving conditions. This includes having sufficient fuel, emergency supplies, and ensuring that your vehicle's tires are suitable for snow and ice.
