Our reservable facilities provide spaces for education, community, and meaningful experiences in nature. Whether hosting a special program, group gathering, or private event, these spaces are designed to bring people together in the heart of the Preserve. Facilities are available by advance reservation and are not open for everyday visitor use.

A: The preserve is open dawn to dusk, 7 days a week. Occasionally, the preserve may be closed for a private event, which will be advertised and scheduled in advance.

Q: Are there any fees to visit?
A: Admission is free. Some special programs or space rentals may require reservations or fees. The preserve is supported by donations and volunteers, and contributions are always welcome.

Q: What is the terrain like on the trails?
A: Trails vary from gentle paths to more rugged forest walks. Most are natural surfaces with roots, rocks, and uneven ground, so sturdy shoes are recommended. Visitors should watch for downed trees, hanging branches, and storm damage, especially after heavy weather. Always use caution while hiking, and be mindful of changing trail conditions.

Q: Are there any seasonal considerations I should know about?
A: Yes — in spring and summer, mosquitoes, ticks, and other insects are common, so insect repellent and long sleeves/pants are recommended. In winter, trails may be snowy or icy, and always check ice conditions before going out on the lake. Never assume ice is thick enough to walk on.

Q: What should I know about wildlife at the preserve?
A: The preserve is home to a variety of wildlife, including deer, foxes, and numerous bird species. Please keep a safe distance (50 feet or more) from all animals, do not feed wildlife, and follow Leave No Trace principles to protect habitats. Birdwatchers are encouraged to bring binoculars and enjoy the seasonal migrations.

A: The Screened Porch is always open for shelter, planning your visit, or taking a quiet rest along your trails.

A: Yes, ample parking is available at the main lot, with overflow parking provided during special events.

A: No, horses are not allowed on the preserve.

Q: Can I bring my own watercraft?
A: Yes, all kayaks, canoes, and other non-motorized watercraft are allowed on the lake.

Q: Are there restroom facilities?
A: There are no permanent restroom facilities for casual visitors. An outhouse is available on-site, and restroom access is provided when renting the Lehmann Lab.
