12/09/2025 Ice Condition Alert – Current Thickness is 6 to 7 Inches

Sam was out on the lake today and reports approximately 6 to 7 inches of good, clear ice measured about 20 yards from shore. Ice depth can vary depending on location and conditions, so it is important to use caution at all times when traveling on the ice.

Based on today’s measurements, the ice appears suitable for foot travel, including trips across the lake to the Forest Megaphone.

Always check conditions frequently and proceed carefully.

12/5/2025: Trail Alert – Hazard trees and impassable trails
The Neilson Spearhead Nature Preserve is open, but please be aware that some trails are currently impassable, these are remnants of the June 2025 storm. Trail clearing has been ongoing through the summer, but most maintenance work is now paused for the winter. Clearing will resume once snowpack and conditions make it safe to continue.
