Thank you for your interest in supporting the Mississippi Headwaters Audubon Society and the Neilson Spearhead Nature Preserve through your estate plans. Planned gifts help ensure that this special place, its wildlife, and its educational mission remain strong for future generations.
Planned gifts can be made through bequests, retirement plans, appreciated assets, life insurance policies, or charitable remainder trusts. Even if you feel you have only modest means to share, you can still make a meaningful legacy gift. We can work with you to direct your plans to the areas that matter most to you, including long-term stewardship of the Preserve, environmental education, citizen science projects, or programs that help people connect with nature.
We are grateful for the generosity and vision of those who choose to remember MHAS and the Preserve in their estate plans. These gifts strengthen our organization, safeguard the land we protect, and carry forward what you, the donor, value most.

Supporting MHAS Through the Northwest Minnesota Foundation
Mississippi Headwaters Audubon Society works in partnership with the Northwest Minnesota Foundation (NMF), a regional community foundation. Our endowment and any endowed support for MHAS are held within NMF’s “family of funds.” Because of this arrangement, we are able to benefit from NMF’s professional investment management, administrative support, and public charity status.
If you have a donor advised fund (DAF) at NMF or another institution, you may recommend a grant from your fund to the MHAS account within NMF. Alternatively, you or your estate may contribute directly to MHAS’s endowed fund in NMF. Gifts of cash, stock, or other assets can be accepted, and your donation builds long term support for the Preserve, our education efforts, stewardship, and conservation work.
Because NMF handles investments, grants, audits, and compliance, your contribution goes to work efficiently. Whether large or modest, one time or recurring, every gift helps ensure the future protection of the Preserve and the mission of MHAS.
