Bemidji Christmas Bird Count
The Mississippi Headwaters Audubon Society invites you to participate in the 126th Annual Christmas Bird Count (CBC)! Started in 1900, the CBC is one of the longest-running community science projects in the world. Each winter, volunteers count birds to help scientists monitor population trends and inform conservation efforts. Your participation makes a real difference, and it’s a fun way to enjoy Minnesota’s winter landscapes!
Join us for a fun and social way to participate in the Bemidji Christmas Bird Count! Whether you’re a seasoned birder or new to the count, this is a great opportunity to meet fellow birders, enjoy breakfast, and get out into nature.
Event Details:
Date: Sudnay, December 14, 2024
Time: 7:00–8:00 a.m. (breakfast and team pairing)
Location: Country Kitchen, 728 Paul Bunyan Dr NW, Bemidji
We’ll start the morning with breakfast and pairing of teams. A Google Maps circle will be provided for everyone, so we can cover our survey area efficiently. To help with planning, please RSVP via text to 225-810-5591 by December 10.
What to Bring:
Warm clothing for outdoor winter conditions
Binoculars
Pencil and clipboard
Water and snacks to stay energized
Count Week Option:
Can’t make the count on December 14? You can still participate during Count Week: December 11–17. Count Week observations allow you to record species not seen on official count day. These are noted as "cw" on the checklist and do not count toward official totals, but it’s a great way to explore your circle and contribute to your personal checklist. Let us know if you plan to participate and we’ll provide a map of your circle.
Accommodations:
If you or someone in your group needs accommodations to participate, please reach out as soon as possible. We’ll do our best to ensure everyone can join in.
Whether you’re helping bring new birders into the fold or just enjoying the social, we hope you’ll join us for breakfast and a morning of birding!
